As the cost of living in many urban areas increases, the need for affordable housing is growing. This disproportionately impacts those that are most vulnerable. Questions surrounding where to locate this housing, how to provide support for its residents, what can be done to reduce the overall economic burden of tenants, and how to best integrate into existing neighborhood are all areas that require thought and answers. Through a series of innovative partnerships, Jubilee Housing has worked with Martha’s Table and New Partners to deliver “justice housing” in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of the District that will not only provide tenants with “deeply-affordable” housing, economic and educational opportunities and support, but also capitalize on the new energy future, through the use of on-site solar and energy storage, to increase resilience and build equity. This panel will discuss how this partnership came to be and its potential replicability elsewhere in the District.
